Multimedia support is decent enough, with a multimedia player that can cope with MP3, AAC and WMA audio plus others, and H.263, H.264 and MPEG4 video. There's no mention of support for WMV video so we guess it doesn't have it. There is a 3.5mm audio socket though, and the Monte supports stereo Bluetooth.

The built-in GPS supports Google Maps 3.0 and Google Latitude. Again, this is useful but just about every other handset we see at the moment can do the same thing.

All the usual software features are here such as a web browser and email client, and the S5620 also supports Exchange ActiveSync. Again, these features are hardly uncommon.

Tbe Samsung Monte, or Samsung GT-S5620 is a 3.5G GPS enabled touchscreen phone with WiFi. It is similar in specification to the B7300 (but without Windows) and the Blue Earth (but without a solar panel), meaning that the Monte fits into a very small gap in Samsung's current product range.

The S5620 Monte does look quite stylish and interesting, but some of the other features can best be regarded as being mundane but useful. The 3" 240 x 400 pixel touchscreen display is a fairly standard TFT panel that is similar to many others on the market. On the back is a 3.2 megapixel camera with support for geo-tagging, which is again useful but not extraordinary.

This is a 3.5G device with maximum HSDPA download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps, and the Monte also supports WiFi connectivity

A new mobile Wi-Fi device has been launched by T-Mobile. The new device is called the T-Mobile Wireless Pointer and acts a wireless hotspot so that devices such as smartphones, netbooks etc, can be connected to mobile broadband by sharing the Wi-Fi hotspot.

3, Orange and Vodafone have launched similar devices, the latest of these being Orange Mobile Wi-Fi.

The Wireless Pointer offers something more than other Wi-Fi modems. This is because the Wireless Pointer has a signal indicator which monitors the mobile broadband signal strength being received.

This is useful as you can adjust the position to achieve the best possible signal being received. The T-Mobile Wireless Pointer will be included for free when a 2 year mobile broadband contract is taken out. Pricing or the availability date is not yet known. The Wireless Pointer will be available on Pay As You Go for under £60.

Samsung Galaxy S Android Update Delayed On Orange and T

Samsung released the SIM-free version of the update at the start of November and it has since been released by Three at the start of December.

Orange and its partner T-Mobile originally planned to launch the update in November and also planned to be the first network to release the update over-the-air.

Sadly, neither has come to fruition with Orange today announcing on its Twitter page that the update will not be available till January and also that it will now only be available over Kies, which is Samsung's update software.

The whole situation has caused an outrage on both the T-Mobile and Orange forums with unhappy customers hitting out at the networks.

However, when it does finally launch the Android 2.2 update will bring full Adobe Flash support, the ability to use your mobile as a personal Wi-Fi network and the capability to install applications on a microSD card.
